- JOURNEY TO “ETNOMIR” : PERUVIAN INDIANS -

Indian culture is one of the most ancient and beautiful. And it is not surprising that it has been attracting people´s attention for many years. In ETNOMIR we met with two Peruvian Indians from Kechua tribe. They represent music culture. According to one of the Indians, Neishon, he came to Russia 5 years ago. Firstly he used to study in Arkhangelsk, later he moved to Moscow, then by a twist of fate he happened to be in ETNOMIR. During 2 years he has been performing here with mini-concerts and master classes.

Neishon shared with us a brief story about their culture and people.
Kechua people live in Peru, Bolivia, Ecuador, in north-western part of Argentina and north of Chili. In the 2nd half of the 15th century Inka Empire (Tawantinsuyu) origined in Andes where their high culture developed. Then after Spanish conquest and fight against heathendom, Kechua accepted Catholicism. However, new religion didn’t disturb them from saving their traditional believes. At the end of the 13th century there was made an attempt to recover Inks’ empire but this attempt was blocked.

Kechua is famous for its folk crafts (felt hats, cane goods, ceramics, golden and silver jewellery, wood carving and etc) and also fantastic music.
